Two dead, one missing in landslide of Russia’s SDS-Coal mine
NOVOSIBIRSK, Dec 9 (PRIME) – Two people were killed and one was missing after a slide on coal mine Chernigovets belonging to Russia’s SDS-Coal, part of the Siberian Business Union, a local emergency services source told PRIME.
Aman Tuleyev, the governor of the Kemerovo Region, where the open-pit mine is located, said weather changes could have been the reason for the landslide.
“Why did the rock mass slide? It may have happened because of the temperature difference…We have not had such a winter at the Kuzbass in a long time, when one day there is minus 28 degrees Celsius and another day we have plus 3 degrees, and water flows and different types of rocks also contributed to that. A slide may have happened,” he said.
An emergency response group is still looking for the missing man under collapsed rocks, he said.
